As more independent garages look for ways to improve efficiency and protect profitability, the latest episode of The Blend Podcast explores how one specialist workshop has used dealer-level processes to support major business growth.
Joining podcast host Mike Ruff, Steve Chambers and Kyle Berry of The Mini Repair Shop share their journey from spending 15 years working together as technicians at a main dealer to launching their own independent garage. Five years on, they are now expanding into a 5,000 square foot workshop, significantly increasing capacity.
The episode provides an insight into the ideas Steve and Kyle will explore in more detail when they take to the stage at The Blend 2026 on Saturday 10th October in Birmingham.
During the podcast, the pair discuss how independent garages can take inspiration from main dealer structures without adopting the restrictions that often come with larger organisations. From improving customer communication to creating a consistent experience, they explain how simple changes can have a significant impact.
“Our presentation at The Blend isn’t about dealer-bashing,” said Steve. “It’s about taking the processes and systems that make life easier, adapting them to the independent sector, and helping other garage owners walk away with practical tools they can use in their workshops the very next Monday.”
“Steve and Kyle’s story is a great example of how independent garages can compete at the highest level by focusing on customer service,” said Mike Ruff. “It’s not about becoming a dealer. It’s about understanding what works, adapting those ideas and creating a business that works better for owners, teams and customers.”
The Blend Podcast is available on all major podcast platforms.
