In this latest episode of the Your Garage series, Alex Lindley of Lindleys Autocentres puts two polar-opposite business strategies to the acid test.
The transition for these sites was not left to chance, as Alex compared the results of a high-street retail branch in Stapleford against a fleet-focused Greenfield site in Mansfield.
The Stapleford model prioritises engaging and relevant customer experiences with a high-spec reception and sunken scissor lifts for rapid servicing, while the Mansfield site relies on strategic contract partnerships to drive volume in an area with negligible passing traffic.
To improve efficiency and future-proof the business, Alex implemented a standard blueprint featuring a central control room, the engine room of the business, which allows staff to move between branches with minimal friction.
A rare look at raw performance data reveals that while both sites produced remarkably similar revenue figures of approximately £78,000, the path to those results differed significantly.
The retail-focused site completed 386 jobs, whereas the fleet-heavy Mansfield site reached the same revenue with just 293 jobs, resulting in a much higher Average Invoice Value.
Why watch
By comparing two very different business strategies, Alex Lindley offers practical advice on whether a high-visibility retail presence or a strategic fleet-focused model delivers better profitability and long-term sustainability.
