Financial pressure is becoming one of the most serious challenges facing people working in the UK automotive industry, with money worries placing growing strain on individuals, families and businesses alike.
Automotive industry charity Ben says it continues to support thousands of automotive workers every year who are struggling to make ends meet, as cost-of-living pressures become an everyday reality across the sector.
To highlight the scale of the issue and encourage people to seek help sooner, Ben has today (Monday 19th) launched a new financial wellbeing campaign, timed to coincide with Blue Monday, a day often associated with low mood and heightened stress levels.
In recent years, Ben has seen a noticeable increase in people needing urgent financial assistance, including help with food, rent, utility bills and, in some cases, support to prevent homelessness.
According to the charity, financial stress rarely exists in isolation. Money worries are increasingly linked to wider health and wellbeing challenges, affecting not only automotive workers but also their partners and dependants.
Ben suggests one in six people working in the automotive industry are skipping meals to save money and one in five are experiencing issues with debt.
The situation reflects a broader national trend. The Financial Wellbeing Index, which surveyed more than 5,000 workers, found that 77% say money worries affect them at work.
Financial stress is closely linked to anxiety, low mood and depression, with far-reaching consequences for individuals, families and workplace performance, something many independent garage owners and managers will recognise among their teams.
Rachel Clift, CEO at Ben, said: “Money worries are one of the most common reasons people reach out to Ben.
“By launching our financial wellbeing campaign on Blue Monday, we want to remind people across the automotive industry that support is available and that they don’t have to face these challenges alone.
“Asking for help early can make a huge difference. Don’t delay, get in touch today
“Whether you need support with budgeting, debt, or making sure you’re getting benefits you’re entitled to, Ben’s here for you.
“We can help you get back on track and feel more confident about the future.
“If you’re struggling with a difficult situation and need support, our experienced helpline advisors and case managers are ready to listen, support and look after you.”
