Jimmy at O’Rileys Autos tackles a severely restricted BMW 320d logging between 800 and 900 mbar of exhaust back pressure following a turbocharger failure.
The owner had already fitted a replacement turbo and even unbolted the DPF onto a bench, but Jimmy insisted on reinstalling it to let engine exhaust flow drive the chemical treatment through in situ.
Using a Launch UK spray gun hooked to workshop air, Jimmy fed diluted Launch DPF cleaning fluid directly through the exhaust back pressure sensor pipe straight into the core.
Initial running brought the back pressure down to 150 mbar at 3,000 rpm, with an extended road test further reducing the reading to 45 mbar under load and 0 mbar at idle.
Jimmy concluded the visit with a Launch Euro Tab 3 to reset the particulate filter adaptation values, while alerting the customer to a blowing exhaust clamp and an intermittent camshaft sensor fault.
