Tower Garage Marlow fills MOT diary two weeks ahead with targeted online strategy

Tower Garage Marlow

Tower Garage Marlow is consistently booked up with MOTs two weeks in advance, with a targeted online strategy helping the independent garage maintain a steady flow of work.

The independent garage, which operates six ramps across workshops in Marlow and High Wycombe, has moved from an underperforming self-managed website to a digital platform designed to attract local motorists, convert searches into bookings and keep its workshop busy.

Founded in Flackwell Heath in 1957 by Peter Fletcher, Tower Garage previously operated as a franchised dealer and police vehicle recovery contractor. In 2003, Peter’s son Martin Fletcher and business partner Alec Mantica relocated the business to Marlow.

Today, the business employs four technicians, a dedicated MOT tester and two service receptionists, with work spanning MOTs, servicing and diagnostics. But as the business developed, Martin recognised that its website was no longer doing enough to support its growth.

“Like many garage owners, I tried to administrate our own website, but it was pretty poor,” said Martin Fletcher, Director at Tower Garage Marlow. “You look around at competitors and realise you need something far better. Garage Services Online approached us, understood our trade, and showed us exactly what could be achieved. We decided to give them a go, and we haven’t looked back since.”

Rather than simply updating the site’s appearance, GSO worked with Tower Garage to identify its strengths, local market and commercial priorities before developing a bespoke platform.

“Jim Lang from GSO took the time to properly interview us,” said Martin. “He analysed our digital footprint, looked closely at what we do and where we wanted the business to go, and identified what jobs we actually wanted to attract. GSO then developed a bespoke proposal and website engineered around those strengths. It’s worked exceptionally well ever since.”

The approach combines targeted search engine optimisation (SEO) with a straightforward booking journey, helping motorists find relevant services and contact the garage without unnecessary steps.

“Most motorists search Google when they need an MOT, a diagnostic check, or a repair,” said Martin. “GSO ensures we stay consistently right at the top of Google search results for our key services across Marlow and High Wycombe. Google regularly reports over 2,000 local views each month searching specifically for our garage or key terms like MOTs and diagnostics.”

That visibility is translating into direct engagement, with consistent web enquiries recorded through the site’s enquiry tools. Online booking also allows customers to arrange appointments around their own schedules, without having to call during the working day.

“Our MOT diary fills up automatically and we’re consistently booked two weeks in advance, and the vast majority book online rather than tying up the front desk on the phone,” Martin explained. “The system confirms the slot to the customer and integrates neatly into our garage management workflow. It takes immense pressure off our reception staff.”

The website has also been designed to make it easy for motorists to find what they need, whether they are booking an MOT, arranging a service or looking for help with a diagnostic warning light.

“Motorists don’t want clutter. If they need an MOT, a service, or have a diagnostic warning light, there are clear, prominent buttons that take them straight to where they want to go. It makes booking effortless,” said Martin.

The steady flow of online enquiries has helped Tower Garage maintain workshop capacity without relying on additional social media advertising to generate work.

For independent garages operating with limited front-of-house resources, the combination of local search visibility and direct online booking can help capture demand while allowing reception staff to focus on customers already in the workshop.

“To be completely honest, we have so much work coming through the website that we don’t need to advertise elsewhere or push work on social media,” said Martin. “GSO keeps our ramps full with the exact work we want to do.

“For any independent garage owner who views a website as just a visual brochure, my advice is to look at what’s working behind the scenes. GSO makes sure local motorists find you first, trust your reviews, and book directly onto your ramps.”
