Jimmy from O’Rileys Autos demonstrates how a faulty fuel level sensor on a 2.0-litre Audi A6 prevented active DPF regeneration, causing limp mode and fault code P2463.
The Audi presented with a flashing red fuel warning and limp mode. Jimmy explains that because the ECU believed the fuel level was critically low, it blocked active regeneration, leading to severe soot accumulation.
Before cleaning, Jimmy verified the pressure sensor’s accuracy with a manometer at 73 mbar to ensure the correct pipe was targeted. He then used a Launch UK DPF cleaning gun to inject chemical fluid directly into the filter.
The reset proved challenging because the DFBA engine’s guided functions lacked a standard DPF adaptation reset. To bypass the issue and clear the limp mode, Jimmy performed an online software update using his Launch tool.
The clean successfully reduced idle pressure from 71 mbar to 5 mbar, and soot from 45g to 5g. However, a measured soot reading of -9999g prompted Jimmy to warn the customer about a potential EGR cooler fault.
