Tudor Car Services responds to changing booking habits with Garage Services Online

Independent garages could be missing out on valuable work simply because customers are unable to pick up the phone during the day, a challenge one long-established Cumbrian workshop has turned into a consistent new revenue stream.

After 43 years in business, Ian Tudor, founder of Tudor Car Services in Barrow-in-Furness, has seen a clear shift in how motorists engage with garages.

By implementing Garage Services Online’s (GSO) award-winning RampUp booking system, the Castrol Certified Workshop is now capturing a steady flow of out-of-hours MOT and service bookings, many arriving late in the evening, long after the workshop has closed.

“The amount of bookings we get between nine o’clock and midnight is incredible,” said Ian Tudor. “During the day, people are either too busy or can’t access the phone. In the evening, they can sit down and book their MOT or service there and then.

“We get a consistent flow of RampUp bookings into our system,” explained Ian. “And after a weekend we come to work with a considerable amount of online bookings.”

RampUp enables customers to book online at any time, effectively extending the garage’s front-of-house operation without the need for additional staff. The platform is also commission-free, allowing the business to retain the full value of each booking while improving efficiency and customer convenience.

“What Tudor Car Services is experiencing right now is exactly why we developed RampUp,” said George Phillips, Director of Operations at GSO. “Ian understood a fundamental shift in consumer behaviour. If your customers can’t pick up the phone during the day, your business needs to be ready and bookable for them 24/7 online.”

Alongside strengthening booking conversion, Tudor Car Services has developed its digital presence over a number of years in partnership with GSO. Having first launched its GSO website in 2010, the business has since expanded its online strategy with a dedicated EV-focused site designed to attract hybrid and electric vehicle work.

This targeted approach has helped the workshop improve its visibility in search results for EV and hybrid-related services, increasing organic enquiries and bringing more of the right work through the door.

“The EV side is growing steadily, and the standalone website is working well,” said Ian. “We’re seeing five to ten hybrid vehicles a week. Being able to showcase our training and accreditation online builds confidence with customers.”

GSO positions itself as a full-service digital lead-generation partner, combining website development, search engine optimisation, paid advertising and its RampUp booking system to convert online visibility into workshop revenue.

For Ian, the key has been working with a provider that understands the realities of the independent sector.

“Talk to them, listen to their advice, and give it a go,” he said. “They understand how our industry works. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve made in business.”

As customer behaviour continues to evolve, Tudor Car Services’ experience highlights a growing reality for independent garages: winning more work is no longer just about capability in the workshop, but about being visible, and bookable, at the moment customers are ready to act.
