RMS Diagnostics tackles a Vauxhall Insignia 1.5 SRI petrol recovered from 80 miles away with severe limp mode and low fuel pressure fault codes after four prior parts replacements failed to fix it.
The vehicle arrived after having its high-pressure fuel rail, pressure sensor, in-tank pump, and camshaft sensor replaced elsewhere. Initial scans with a Thinkcar Euro 399 retrieved fault codes for fuel pressure regulation performance alongside intake camshaft sensor faults.
Referencing Hella Gutmann technical data, multimeter checks at the camshaft sensor connector verified 5V reference voltage, ground, and signal return feeds. Oscilloscope testing produced no waveform during engine cranking, though waving a screwdriver past the sensor produced a clear pulse, proving the sensor circuit was electrically sound.
A borescope inserted into the sensor port revealed the camshaft tail was completely stationary during engine cranking. Stripping the cam cover confirmed the camshaft had snapped inside the journal; because the rear section drives the mechanical high-pressure fuel pump, the fracture left the pump undriven and triggered the fuel pressure codes.
