The Independent Garage Association (IGA) has announced a 22% increase in membership for 2025, bringing its community to more than 4,500 independent garages across the UK.
The rise marks a significant milestone for the organisation and highlights the growing demand for structured support, training and representation within the independent aftermarket.
As the largest representative body for independent garages, the IGA says the growth reflects its ongoing commitment to championing the sector.
Its independent, member-first approach continues to resonate with workshops seeking clarity and support in an increasingly complex industry.
Chief Executive Stuart James said the surge in new members demonstrates the strong confidence garages place in the association, noting that providing meaningful, practical support remains at the heart of its work.
He said: “Our continued focus on providing exceptional value and meaningful support to our members remains at the heart of everything we do.
“The IGA is, and always will be, driven solely by the needs of the independent garage sector, without compromise or external influence.”
The association’s expanding portfolio of in-house services has been a key factor in attracting new members.
From electric and hybrid vehicle expertise and specialist technical training to tooling guidance, apprenticeship support and tailored insurance solutions, the IGA provides resources designed to help garages adapt to a fast-moving market.
As workshops face rapid technological change and rising pressures on efficiency and compliance, the IGA’s support offers a structured way to stay prepared and competitive.
Beyond practical services, the association continues to play a vital role in representing independent garages at national level.
With well-established relationships across government and key industry bodies, the IGA ensures the concerns of independent garages are heard in policy discussions.
According to Stuart, this influence helps safeguard a fair, balanced automotive landscape and supports the long-term sustainability of the sector.
