From rare enamel signs to legendary Vincents, the Ron Haigh Collection offers independent garages a unique chance to acquire museum-quality heritage items.
For many independent garage owners, the history of our trade is a source of pride. Whether it’s a vintage enamel sign on the workshop wall or a classic clock in the waiting area, these items remind customers of the longevity and skill inherent in the automotive aftermarket.
Next February, a significant opportunity to acquire such history arrives at Race Retro. Iconic Auctioneers has announced it will present the Ron Haigh Collection—one of the most comprehensive single-vendor collections seen in recent years.
Crucially for potential bidders, the entire collection is offered without reserve.
The collection, estimated at over £300,000, features more than 350 items of automobilia. For garage owners looking to inject authentic character into their reception areas or offices, the catalogue is extensive.
The listing includes original enamel signs, period neon, and illuminated advertising pieces that defined a golden era of motoring. Standout lots that capture the nostalgia of the trade include:
- Original Brough Superior Showroom Clock: Est. £3,000 – £5,000
- Large Neon Buick Sign: Est. £7,000 – £10,000
- Gilera ‘Servizio’ Enamel Sign: Est. £3,000 – £4,000
- Maico Shop Sign Light Box: Est. £3,000 – £4,000
A particular highlight for those interested in British engineering history is a Vincent illuminated shop sign (£4,000 – £5,000).
This rare survivor was used at the 1951 Earl’s Court Motorcycle Show, representing a defining moment in post-war culture.
Beyond the signage, the sale features Haigh’s personal collection of 25 motorcycles. For technicians with an appreciation for classic engineering, the lineup is impressive.
Leading the group are iconic machines that sit at the top of the post-war British hierarchy: a Vincent Black Shadow, a Black Night, a Rapide, and a Comet.
The collection also displays a depth of technical knowledge, featuring BMW, Adler, and Zundapp combinations, as well as an ex-works Adler.
Rob Hubbard, Managing Director at Iconic Auctioneers, highlighted the significance of the collection: “Collections like Ron Haigh’s are built over decades and tell a clear story about passion, patience and knowledge. To present more than £300k of automobilia from a single owner, alongside 25 important motorcycles, at Race Retro is a real privilege.”
