Top Awards 2026 competition intensifies as final rounds draw closer

The search for the UK’s top garage talent is entering a crucial stage, with the Top Awards 2026 competition intensifying as leading garages, technicians and apprentices face increasingly demanding assessments on the road to the semi-finals.

Following months of rigorous qualifying challenges that began in February, contenders across the Top Technician, Top Garage and Top Apprentice categories are now being tested on their technical ability, business performance and industry knowledge as they compete for one of the aftermarket’s most sought-after titles.

“Long recognised as the industry’s most sought-after accolade, the Top Awards has a reputation as the competition everyone aspires to win,” said Ryan Fuller, Managing Director of Top Awards. “However, its true value lies beyond the trophy itself. The competition gives entrants the opportunity to test their skills, benchmark themselves against the best in the sector and gain valuable insight into where they can continue to improve.”

For Top Technician, the remaining contenders are currently completing round two’s online questions. Those who progress will move on to round three’s online essay questions before making it to the semi-finals, where they will face ten 20-minute live fault-finding tasks designed to test their diagnostic expertise, technical knowledge and ability to perform under pressure.

“The semi-final challenges are deliberately unpredictable, with judges creating scenarios that push competitors beyond their everyday experience,” said Top Technician Judge Glen Cutter. “The only way you get better is to test yourself.”

While technicians can expect complex diagnostic faults, Glen explained that competitors may also face unexpected challenges, from working with emerging technologies such as hydrogen fuel cell vehicles to tackling unusual practical tasks involving specialist vehicles. The aim is to assess not only technical ability, but also adaptability, decision-making and problem-solving skills.

The Top Apprentice category, which celebrates emerging talent at Level 2 and Level 3, is also reaching a critical stage, with remaining competitors completing an online assessment as they battle for a place in the November finals.

Meanwhile, Top Garage entrants are continuing through their semi-final process with an online assessment focused. Those who progress will be invited to present their businesses to a panel of industry judges at the finals, demonstrating how they manage their operations, support customers and drive continuous improvement within their workshops.

The successful finalists from all three categories will face the ultimate test on Saturday 14 November at Delphi Academy in Warwick. Technicians and apprentices will take on 50-minute live fault-finding challenges, while Top Garage finalists will deliver their final business presentations.

The finals will also continue the Top Awards’ commitment to supporting wellbeing within the automotive industry through its partnership with automotive charity BEN. Alongside hosting BEN’s Big Breakfast charity brunch, the competition features the BEN Workplace Health & Wellbeing Award, recognising workshops that actively create positive environments for their teams.

The 2026 champions will be revealed at an Awards Dinner at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Coventry on the evening of the finals.

The Top Awards continues to be supported by some of the biggest names in the automotive aftermarket, with industry partners including Snap-on, TOPDON UK, VARTA, Delphi, JLM Liquid Tools, Garage Hive, Omoda Jaecoo, HELLA, Hofmann Megaplan UK, LKQ Euro Car Parts, Mechanic Mindset, Garage Services Online, Castrol and The Race Group backing the 2026 competition.

While entries for the 2026 cycle are now closed, the Top Awards is inviting the wider aftermarket to be part of the action by following the competition’s progress and joining finalists, judges and industry leaders at the live finals and evening awards ceremony on 14 November, where the winners of the UK’s leading garage, technician and apprentice competition will be revealed.
