HELLA has launched a new range of AdBlue pumps, expanding its commercial vehicle range as workshops and fleet operators face increasing pressure to maintain emissions compliance and minimise downtime.
Also known as urea dosing pumps, they are designed to support Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems by ensuring the precise delivery of AdBlue into the exhaust stream. This enables effective nitrogen oxide (NOx) reduction and helps vehicles remain compliant with Euro VI standards.
The launch comes amid growing scrutiny on emissions and uptime, particularly as Clean Air Zones continue to expand across the UK.
“AdBlue system reliability has become a critical factor for operators,” said Matthew Smart, Head of Electronics at HELLA. “When a dosing pump fails, it’s not just an emissions issue. It can quickly lead to reduced engine performance and, ultimately, a vehicle being taken off the road.”

A failing pump can trigger an ECU-controlled derate, progressively limiting engine torque and speed until the issue is resolved. For operators, this often results in a vehicle off road (VOR) scenario, with costs estimated at around £800 per day.
Designed for demanding commercial vehicle applications, HELLA’s pumps integrate an electric motor, diaphragm-based mechanism, pressure sensor and heating element within a sealed unit. They are compatible with 24 V systems, operate at pressures of up to 12 bar, and function across temperatures from -40°C to +85°C.
An integrated long-life filter helps maintain consistent urea flow, while the robust construction is built to withstand continuous dosing cycles.
HELLA also highlights the importance of correct installation and AdBlue quality, noting that contamination and improper fitting are common causes of failure. Clear mounting guidance is provided to support best practice.
“Workshops need parts they can rely on to fit first time and perform as expected,” added Matthew. “By simplifying installation, we’re helping technicians complete repairs efficiently and keep vehicles on the road.”
The range covers a wide selection of major commercial vehicle manufacturers, including DAF, Iveco, MAN, Mercedes-Benz, Neoplan, Renault, Scania and Volvo.
